HOW TO GET THE PERFECT FESTIVE RED LIP

Tis the season, and you've hopefully arrived to your final destination
where you'll be spending these jolly days. Last year I almost didn't make
the plane home, and was close to spending a Christmas on my own. Whether
you're surrounded by family and friends, or maybe going out to meet new ones
who are also spending their Christmas away from home,
one thing is sure; red lipstick can be a game changer!

And good news, there's still time to dust off that red lipstick of yours,
and you won't need much to get it just right for Christmas eve. but a few
tricks will make the look go from good to perfect.

YSL ROUGE VOLUPTE SHINE

Here comes the magic trick: it's ELF.
No, it's not Will Ferrell dressed in a green suit and slippers
coming to do his magic with a make-up wand, and yes,
it is as effective as it is cheesy.

First step: exfoliate. There are several ways to do this well, and
it's all up to you what floats your boat. If you like me are suffering from
dry lips at this time, rub some lip balm on there before taking on the exfoliating
(I swear by Lucas' Papaw Ointment and M.A.C.'s Lip Conditioner). If they're
really dry, letting it sit for 10 minutes will do wonders, and not leave you with
bleeding lips (that's the exact opposite of what we're trying to do here). Some
mix in sugar with lip balm or honey, others use a dry towel, or a clean
toothbrush to rub off anything dry on the lips. Choice is yours, just make
sure your lips aren't too moist when you start applying your lip colour!

Second step: line the lips. This will prolong the longevity of your lip
colour, whilst making sure everything stays in place. After lining the edge
of your lips, smack them together a few times quickly, to smudge the
line into the lip a bit.

Third step: fill 'em in! With the little time we have until Christmas,
this is not the time to be shy! Apply the lip colour within your beautifully
drawn, beautifully smudged line and make sure to finish off with
a smile!

THE MIRACLE MATCH

MAX FACTOR "MIRACLE MATCH" FOUNDATION (NATURAL 50)

It's time to talk basics and all that goes with it! As I work from home a lot I don't cover up much, but when I'm on a job or a photoshoot, I do rely on a good foundation to give me a healthy look and even coverage. I am therefor super excited to announce, that I in collaboration with Max Factor to celebrate the launch of the Miracle Match Foundation will be offering beauty and fashion consultation on social media for the whole of next week. No less than make-up star, Caroline Barnes, will be offering you with the beauty advice, and I will be providing you with fashion and style consultation, offering colour matching advice on how you can personally style and accessorise yourself for the season.

KEEPSAKE KIMONO

Starting this Monday the 21st of September, you can upload a head to shoulders crop of yourself to Instagram or Twitter with the hashtag #MiracleMatch and @MaxFactor (Instagram) or @MaxFactorUK (Twitter). Wear your hair down if possible, not obscuring face, and for the best advice, try and shoot in natural daylight, facing a window. I can't wait to see you guys and get started on the online consultations next week!

This foundation was trialled at the Diane Von Furstenberg AW15 show, and is renowned for it's shade matching technology also providing nourishment and blur. Photos above are all full coverage, but on a day-to-day basis I get away with mixing a pump or two in my day cream for a healthy look, but I'll let Caroline give you the best advice for you next week!

HAVE AN AMAZING START TO YOUR WEEKEND

THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD RED LIPSTICK

Bordering the time when Summer turns to Autumn, richer and more burnt nuances take the lead. Although a fantastic shade for summer, I personally feel more comfortable wearing a rich red on my lips. With summer heat, I just get it everywhere - on second thought though, I just generally get it everywhere (mainly because I can't keep my paws off snacks)..

But asides from leaving a trail of where you've been in the kitchen, red is a colour that sparks and communicates confidence, and for these reasons alone, I will always keep coming back to this look. If you've been following the site for a fair while, you might know that MAC's "Ruby Woo" is one of my absolute favourites, being matte and just simply gorgeous on (moisture lips are crucial for this one though, or you'll find yourself in cake town). For this Autumn though, I've been falling (pun, ha!) in love with more glossy, creamy looks. So for this! I bring you Zoeva's Cooling Passion which I'm wearing in all shots. In the second photo, I added a base of Topshop's Infrared, which is more orange, giving a more burnt orange red, but I reckon brown bases would look amazing as well.

HOPE YOU'RE ENJOYING THE WEEKEND

BEST OF THE BRITISH

KEEPSAKE TOP / LEE JEANS / NEXT SHOES / PRADA SUNGLASSES / CARAVELLE WATCH / GAS BIJOUX BRACELET / WEAREARROW RING / NORDENSTAM RING

With a title like this, I don't think it takes the average world citizen's train of thought a long time to arrive at the name Burberry. For a fashion house that not only succeeds in a global classic but is the mastermind behind it too (le trench coat), there is no doubt that there's a certain place on the British throne for Burberry. That of course includes my latest obsession from their beauty department, the Fresh Glow Luminous Primer, and for my recent stay at Hotel Café Royal, I enjoyed partnering up with Regent's Street for a day in the name of beauty.

Now, I have a confession. Until this particular day, I was a pedicure virgin. I mean, someone putting nail polish on my toes, pfff! I don't need anyone to do that, and until then quite honestly just didn't want anyone to go there. This was of course until these two shiny, perfectly teal painted, soft feet from Venus were at the end of my legs. I admit defeat, and it has been clearly demonstrated to me how I obviously shouldn't be dealing with my feet myself, but just leave it to the Margaret Dabbs clinic in Liberty, sweet.

Followed by what from now on shall be referred to as "The Epifany", it was off to get a blow-dry at Dry By on Mortimer Street, and I don't know why, but there's just something about ordering your designated 'do from a menu. It's pretty brilliant, that's what it is.

GET THE GLOW

CARINA NORDENSTAM RINGS / BURBERRY FRESH GLOW LUMINOUS PRIMER / GARNIER BB CREAM LIGHT / NARS COPACABANA HIGHLIGHTER / NARS DUAL-INTENSITY EYESHADOW PALETTE / NARS BLUSH, CONTOUR AND LIP PALETTE

The best thing about the summer beauty routine is, that it's not really there. We've all got dewy faces from being in the tube, out of the tube and not least, on the beach (train tickets to Brighton, check!). However, there's nothing wrong in helping the sweatyness healthy glow a little on its way with some high shine pigments, and I thought I'd share some of my favourites.

Numero 1. Lately I've become such a fan of using an illuminating primer underneath a BB cream. I use Burberry's Fresh Glow Luminous Primer and it's just magical. It can be used afterwards as a highlighter as well, so yay for multi purpose! Always favourite the NARS Copacabana highlighter is just a classic. Perfect all year around, and just great as a finishing touch.

THE PERFECT UNIONS

Sometimes, just sometimes, the union of two are better than one. Take peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Equally awesome on their own, and although it wouldn't be obvious for the unexperienced, these two compliment each other perfectly. Now take vegemite - good in small amounts, right? Now add that to your otherwise perfect fruit salad, and it's irreversibly ruined and is only worthy of the drain.

There wasn't any worry in my heart that the last mentioned example would in any way apply to the union of two of my favourites in their designated fields. We're talking about the Neoneutral collaboration between NARS, experts of the make-up game and inventor of my favourite highlighter uniting with London designer Christopher Kane, bringing his eclectic and exciting taste to the table. Now this is peanut butter and jelly proportions, alright!

NARS NEONEUTRAL MAKEUP / VINTAGE T-SHIRT / LEVI'S JEANS / NEXT SHOES

As mentioned above, NARS stands undefeated as my highlighter champion, with their Multiple Highlighter stick in Copacabana, and Violet Atom from this collaboration made me clap my hands yet again. Just a slight pink and blue tint that gives a perfect 90's feel to the look that especially worked well with the Silent Nude blush.

And of course, let's not forget the glosses! Although I don't avidly use lipgloss, I've recently discovered a fun way of wearing it. Follow my steps below for an Ombre lip:

1. Start by applying the lipgloss all-over your lips to tint the entire lip.

2. Wipe it off so you just have the stain left on your lip. Dab the Silent Nude blush on your entire lip apart from right in the center.

3. Apply lipgloss just to the inner edge of your lips and smack your lips together multiple times, to create the ombre effect.

HOPE YOU HAVE A COLOURFUL WEEK

EASY TRANSITIONS

Having a lot of my friends from abroad in town has meant a lot of transitioning from daytime in to nighttime. Now you know me, I'm pretty laid back, and instead of doing the total outfit change, I will change out the sneakers with boots and lay my focus on the eyes to create a look that smoothly transitions from day-to-night with equally as much bold impact

For someone whose lashes are rather fair, mascara was my friend pretty much from the day I mastered the trick of the wand.
Whether it be day or night, you might know how I will often rely on a bit of a mascara cocktail. But when you're on the go and need an easy transition, I like having the definition without the weight of many layers and that feeling of wearing make up, especially on your lashes and then layer on as you go.

I have been using Rimmel London's Wonder'lash mascara lately, as it has one of my favourite ingredients for hair: argan oil. My old trick has always been to remove my eye make-up with sesame oil, which nourishes the lashes. So for this reason, I was super keen to give it a go and the result feels very light and flexible on the eyes, which gives a lovely natural look, that can be built on to into the night.

COLOUR CLASH WITH L'OREAL

February is on, and the last month of winter calls for a bit of colour for a kick start to a great year, and what better way to start the year than a competition where you could win a 1 year contract with L'Oreal and go to Paris?

So, L'Oreal has made a really exciting competition called The Brush Contest, where you can win a 1 year contract as an expert Makeup Designer for L'Oreal Paris worth €100,000. It's open to any up-and-coming make up artists, bloggers, vloggers and makeup fanatics and the theme of the competition entry is 'Colour Clash' - interpret it any way you wish, just have fun! All you need to do is upload a 3-min video tutorial right here before the 15th of February. One UK winner will go to the worldwide final in Paris which will be hosted by L'Oreal spokesmodel Eva Longoria.

This competition is all about what excites you, and having fun. I will take you through step-by-step on how I created my colour clash look for an idea of how you can do it, but don't be afraid to go even crazier!

1. Start doing your base. It's all about the eyes with this look, so start with a clear canvas, and apply concealer / foundation / BB cream where needed.

Use the L'Oreal Super Liner in Intense Blue and apply the eyeliner as close as you can to the lash-line, making it thicker as you go away from the eye. Next bit is doing the flick, which will take a bit of concentration, as you want to get it matching on both eyes! Don't worry if you get it messy at this step - clear out any mistakes with a q-tip with makeup remover.

On top of the smudged liner on the crease, apply L'Oreal Color Riche L'ombre Pure in Pop with your index finger. This will give it a cool 3D effect! Next is mascara, where I apply black mascara on the top lashes in an outwards motion as I want my lashes to be straight and not curved for this look, and on the bottom lashes, I apply two coats of L'Oreal Miss Manga Mega Volume in Turquoise.

L'OREAL MISS MANGA MEGA VOLUME IN TURQUOISE / SUPER LINER IN INTENSE BLUE / COLOR RICHE EXTRAORDINAIRE IN FUCHSIA DRAMA

Last step is the lips. Lightly apply a sparse coat of foundation to your lips, whereafter you add just a splash of L'Oreal's Color Riche Extraordinaire in Fuchsia Drama to the middle of the lips followed by a lot of smacking for a gradient result and voilà!

I HOPE YOU HAVE JUST AS MUCH FUN CREATING YOUR COLOUR CLASH LOOK! SEE MORE AND ENTER THE COMPETITION HERE. GOOD LUCK!

PREPARING FOR FASHION WEEK WITH MY PEN

Come end January, and it is time! The fashion weeks have begun, and models, photographers, editors and bloggers (heyaa!) are coming together from all over to see what the movers and shakers of those hot spots on the world are coming up with. As you are reading this, I am well on my way to Stockholm, which is the next city on the map to host the fashion party, and I'm beyond excited!

Now, a fair bit of preparation goes in to attending fashion weeks, and the process beforehand is the still before the storm. The cherished moments of quietly planning with the odd chaotic clothes crisis - oh the fun. Last mentioned made me purchase a short vintage 60s dress yesterday, to wear with knee high boots, but more on that another time. My camera is of course my most essential companion and accessory at fashion week, so the fact, that my leather case just so happen to match my other fashion week companion, my Chanel no. 5 for those special occasions, well, hello for a match!

In my preparation, I have kept my beauty routine to a minimum, leaving skin bare and let whichever red spots that came go untouched, unconcealed and instead focused my energy on my photography. For the fashion weeks, my PEN will be joined by my 12mm f2.0 lens for some scenic shots and my 75mm f1:1.8 for capturing portraits, and in-between-shows-coffees. I'm really enjoying how light I've become at the fashion weeks, and it's not because I've finally quit my daily in-take of whipped cream (one needs supplements for the soul), but because I'm not carrying heavy equipment around. Handy much? I think so! I started putting bricks in my bag, just to slowly get used to the difference.. With good preparation pre fashion week, planning outfits before being thousands of miles away from your closet, fashion week runs rather smoothly, and I can't wait to show you, what I'll be up to these times!

MY LIP ROUTINE

MAC
LIPLINER IN "NICE 'N' SPICY" (similar tone here) / MAC LIPSTICK IN "LA VIE EN ROUGE" / NUXE LIP BALM "RÊVE DE MIEL BAUME LÈVRES"MAC LIPSTICK IN "KINDA SEXY"

Alright, so here we go. I had originally named this post: "FF TALKS TOO", as a lot of you will have guessed, that my devotion and main passion lies with the still image. If you have ever come across me in real life, you will however know, that not only do I talk, but I quite happily talk a lot. And for that reason, I have lovingly tried to spare you, but the wind has shifted, and I thought a video would just be a more effective way of sharing some of my routines with you - starting with one of my everyday lipstick routines. As mentioned in the video, I am no expert on this whatsoever, this is just the way I do it and what seems to work for me - I hope you enjoy it anyhow!
