THE UNSTYLISH TRAVELER

COUNTRY ROAD BLAZER (similar here and here) / GANNI TOP / AG JEANS / VINTAGE SCARF / SWAROVSKI BRACELET

Now, after an amazing time in Australia I stand before that glorious 28 hour journey back to London. As much as I can loose myself in "How (insert gorgeous celebrity) travels in style" articles, I have had to face the fact, that for me, looking even just moderately stylish whilst traveling is completely unattainable. Any slight heel would loose it's height by the time I got to Singapore by the weight of my massive backpack (yes, backpack, and we're talking XXL). Indeed, you shall find me completely unkempt, no make-up - not even concealer - with my head down in my back pack in a desperate attempt to find contacts. This, my friends, is why I put sticky-tape over the camera on my phone pointed towards me. It's something that lies deep within me and I believe also our culture, a faulted myth of human history, that self-esteem and self-worth lies in those outer components and that we constantly need to keep up appearances, even when we're on the go, to be worthy of others' attention, kindness and time. Sidetracking it, I know, but it's a subject I'd like to dig into more at another time!

However, having been involved with a certain fairy-tale picture recently, I can't say it hasn't rekindled the idea, that at some point in my life I will magically transform into a stylish jet-set unicorn with a 24/7 glorious yoga glow going on. I don't know how much coconut water it's going to take, but let me know and I'll fill in the order right now!

HOPE YOU'RE HAVING A REALLY WONDERFUL START TO YOUR WEEK

MBFWA, SAY WHAT!?

My recent trip to Sydney for the 20th Anniversary of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia has shown, that there's a reason to celebrate the designers from Down Under. Mind you, there might even be a space for a whole-hearted "Halleluja!" for the circular flounced sleeves seen at Ellery and MacGraw, causing several of us onlookers to part with a bit mouth water. If you followed me on Snapchat when the circus was in town, you'll have seen me on the run between the shows, praising the overall focus on nonchalant wearability with a diversity in garments that meant it communicated to both an Australian and an international wardrobe. More specifically there was a big mix of fuzzy AW coats on display at Strateas Carlucci to go over those lighter lace styles a la Kate Sylvester and Alice Temperley to cater for both sides of Equator.

A remarkable strength from the land Down Under that shan't go unmentioned was the evening wear. Betty Tran made the unconventional extraordinary by using a scuba-like material for embroidered couture gowns and let the models walk down the catwalk to empowering feminist quotes.

Best beauty look was hands down Manning Cartel, bringing back the strong brow paired with a fluorescent red lip (also seen at Bianca Spender) and the most enviable hair with big waves gathered together with a transparent rubber band a few inches from the ends. Oh, and let's not forget, since we are actively reliving the best fashion decades from the last century, the 60's inspired silhouettes and jacquard prints to go with it.

My first season at the fashion week Down Under didn't let me down, and let's not pretend the perfect weather and the indulgent waffle breakfast at the Pier One wasn't a big part of it. I managed to escape the city a few days in when the crazy storm came over Sydney just days after the fashion week, but tropical storms aside, I'm determined to boomerang back for upcoming seasons.

TORN APART

ASOS T-SHIRT / PAIGE DENIM JEANS / WHISTLES CLUTCH / MONICA VINADER BRACELET / BIANCO SHOES

When I'm wearing ripped jeans, I can't help but feel like I'm being slightly rebellious and un-traditional. I was an incredibly predictable teenager, and never had that feeling that I even slightly went a little crazy, so now in my 20s - yes, I will wear a pair of ripped jeans, thank you! However, rebelliousness is defined by breaking the norms, and ripped jeans can hardly count as a rule-breaking style anymore having been around for that exact same purpose for many years. And so it goes, that in the fog of my jet lag in the middle of the night back in Melbourne, I found myself going through the drawers of my grandmother's desk, trying to find ribbon as I was wrapping a present. No luck in the ribbon search, but before I knew it, I found myself surrounded by piles of old photographs of my father's young Melbourne days. There he was, in the streets of Fitzroy with his guitar and in his ripped jeans. My late night went so late it got early, but it was so intriguing to have a peak into what the streets were like then, and slightly amusing that somehow this style then has survived throughout decades. Now, I don't want to brag, but my dad is in my opinion one of the coolest fish in the pond, so I would never be the one to rebel (I'm a peace-maker, ya' know), but I love this thought; how would you rebel against a generation of rebels? Ripped jeans? They've been there! More holes? They'd probably ask you to make them a pair! I'm left puzzled, but until I figure it out, I will keep wearing the holes in my jeans as were they my invention.

HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND

GERTRUDE STREET

HANDSOM SHIRT / HANDSOM SHORTS / POLLINI BOOTS / HAY TOTE / PRADA SUNNIES / DW WATCH

Bloggers be blogging, but someone *coughs, me* hasn't been. Now I'm sure you're as uninterested in my excuses as my teacher would be if I was ever late for school, but (keyword in any good excuse, one for the notes) fashion weeks are bananas. And not just the fashion weeks, but the whole time around them. There's no way to prepare your body for what you're about to experience - it's a wonderful time with all of the treats and perks included, absolutely, but somehow these recurring events echo back to when I was a student with sleep out of the equation and caffeine being your best friend.

Looking forward to sharing my amazing #MBFWA here on the blog, but if you're keen for the live updates, head to snapchat or Instagram @SRHMIKAELA.

NATURAL ESCAPE

ZARA JUMPSUIT

A little bit of a personal post coming up. See, I have had a budding dream for a while, which I am going to let you in on. You know how people have their 5-year / 10-year plans? I have never quite been as organised as that, but claiming guilty of being a true romantic (a real gushy one, in fact), dreams do arise. I don't know where this started, but I would love to live in a treehouse. Away from the city, one with the surrounding nature but of course with an excellent wi-fi connection, please!
°
If there's something that keeps me grounded from a glamourised industry, it's things like growing my own fruit and veg; until I moved to London, I had no idea this was actually an interest of mine. Why you will also now see green as being one of the main colours of my Instagram account. Back to topic, having just arrived a little bit out of Sydney, the nature here has completely rekindled my dream. The weather has gotten a bit chillier here, but having been born and raised in Denmark, you will never hear me complain about anything over 20°. One day perhaps, but until then, I will hang on to this flowy jumpsuit for future identity references.

POSTCARD FROM DOWN UNDER

TRIANGL BIKINI / KIRSTEN GOSSLON NECKLACE

The sun. The sea. The air. The fish & chips! This is exactly what I needed. It seems so easy these days, perhaps especially as women of modern society, to focus on our careers and push for as many opportunities and filling up all hours of the day towards being accomplished in all areas of our life. Perhaps skipping the down-time where you actually rest up, engage with the ones you care for and simply just taking in the moment. I have felt much like this lately, so when I together with the lovely Cara went down to Mount Martha earlier this week to go for a swim in the ocean, watch the sunset, play a nerve-wrecking game of canasta and eat the most delicious vegetarian tacos (with a bit of Cara-touch by adding pumpkin), every cell in my body felt rested and happy. Although I cannot successfully take the sea with me, I will try and put myself in this mindset every now and then. Perhaps one should actively take up meditating again?
