REHEARSAL OVER

UP TO DATE
Oh wow, did this month just pass by like a racoon on a scooter? It feels like forever since I was stuffing myself with Christmas leftovers yet no time since my moves were unleashed in Soho for New Year's Eve. Getting back into my routines, there's this Danish radio program I listen to in the mornings, where people text in with what their day ahead would be like, was it a cake. I'm a target for this type of marketing for obvious reasons (My kind of logic exactly), and so it had me thinking, if my January was a cake, we'd be looking at something like 28% tax return research, 62% digging through and sorting out receipts for tax return and 10% cross cravings - we're talking broccoli and chocolate mousse. Sleep is a much missed friend, but I've marked off March for hibernation. This will mean planned, out of context posts, snoring SnapChats*, Netflix and a whole bunch of delivery food.

Everybody excited? Me too!

A STUDY OF A POSITIVE MIND

A LITTLE PASSION PIECE

It often crosses my mind, how frequently we are being sold certain lifestyles, and society let's us know exactly what is expected of us both physically and mentally. Yet when it comes to our mental health, being nuanced and diverse is the very part of our design, why there can never be a one-size fits all. Happiness isn't just something you can buy online, it's a matter of healthy thought patterns, the way you choose to think and how you deal with adversity. Now, I am no expert in human thought patterns, but I have however been observing mine for a good 20-something years now, and despite ups and downs, I've been enjoying the ride at a pretty constant high (thanks to sugar).

I've learnt so much from the mindset of my parents. I truly don't know two other people in the world as capable of turning a bad situation good. Whenever we were going through difficult times, they could somehow magically reframe it and make the glass seem even fuller than before. I also recall accidentally ruining a few things here or there in my childhood, and through guilt-filled teary eyes, I could always find my dad in all his kindness assuring me, that whatever I'd ruined was only material.

So, one of the mysteries is how to keep your overall happiness somewhat level despite hardships. For me, the most sustainable way has always been about finding happiness in many things, big as small, so it doesn't just come down to one thing to provide or define your happiness. This way, when one tire punctures, of course it sucks, but you're alright, and you're counting your blessings of having three others (plus that spare one) that work. If your entire happiness is provided by one person or one thing, feelings both good and bad will be amplified dependant on these.

Now we are creatures of habit, and if we've been used to classifying the glass as half-empty (often disguised under the name 'realist'), it can take some time to get into a more positive mindset. Surrounding yourself with positive people and messages are infectious, and help tremendously. Our lives are a story with your mind as the narrator. You'll be enjoying the story just that bit more, if you choose to look at the world through kindness and opportunity. Hardships should never define or limit you, but leave you stronger and more experienced. Nothing makes us happy as our relationships, so make sure to care and nurture your support system, those wonderful people who you will catch if they fall, and the people who will catch you if you fall.

A little mind blab from me today! Hope you have a great week ahead!

BERET IN MIND

OH, THIS OLD THING?

Let's talk berets you guys. As when you can't go to France, you might as well let it come to you, and what better way to feel the aura of France than in the shape of a beret. Now there is no wrong doing in going all in combining it with a classic breton, but for the sake of exploration, here are three other ways you could style the ever so identifiable disc on your head. I've been looking for the perfect one all winter, and although combing through the high street, mine was found in a lovely vintage shop in Angel, London, who had unused stock. If you can tolerate pure wool, I highly suggest you take a trip to Camden Passage, do as I and get one as cheap as toast!

CARIN WESTER JUMPSUIT / LINKS OF LONDON NECKLACE

Moving on from the exciting chat about classic French headwear, I'd love to share a quick note on validation. In the time this blog has been running (since 2009, whaaat!?) my relationship to fashion has changed so much. Fashion has for me always come from a place of having fun, but I remember thinking that the outfit made me and not the other way around, especially when I was a lot younger. Now I understand, that the clothes I wear is there as an expression of the person I am, and valid because of it. Validation comes from within and begins with self-kindness. Never feel like you need to change what you like, choose to celebrate it regardless of how many likes it gets, and whoever wants to share that joy with you is a bonus.

YOU ARE AWESOME, EVEN IF YOU SHOULD QUESTION IT.

THE SPRING ROLL METHOD

You know that person in the gym, that person who is running turbo-speed, uphill, and oh yeah, they sweat glitter dust. And you (and by you I mean I) am on the next treadmill basically just rolling around like a passive overcooked spring roll. I hope this doesn't apply for you guys, but this week has been that person, running way faster than myself tailwind and all, trying to keep up, spring roll style. For this reason, I like to incorporate anything in my work that will remind me of the weekend. Things that ground me in busy January weeks (you know how I've been raving about yoga), but the little things do wonders to a busy mind.

WESTMINSTER WANDERS

ALL IN GOOD TIME

There's an instant kick of adrenaline when you move to a new city, and in the pursuit of learning about your new local area, those historic landmarks that shape the skyline sometimes get saved for later. Now, mind you, I have passed Big Ben in many elusive and much appreciated moments in the time I've lived in vibrant London. However, intentionally pursuing those historic London spots fully adapting to the always classy mindset of a tourist is another thing entirely. Whether you're from the city originally or as with me, you've been adopted into it somewhere in between, every now and then it's a huge load of fun being the tourist shouting "'Ello guv'ner" from a double decker and hitting the pub for fish and chips.

5 AMAZING COFFEE SHOPS IN LONDON

Framboise-Fashion-5-Amazing-Coffee-shops-Barber-London-Parlour

MY LONDON SELECTION

It's finally here! The first part of my London Coffee Shop guide!
You'll know me by now, I like my coffees, and I like them iced. And that's all year around.. Counting as one of London's many self-employed, it's nice if not absolutely necessary to get out of the house every now and then and cafés and coffee shops can offer the perfect space for work, socialising and let's not forget the art of coffee making. So my dear friends, new as old, after 3 years of jumping around London with my laptop, slurping those iced coffees down as I go, I feel like I have something to say on the subject and I'm more than happy to share. So please, join me as I go to 5 of my favourite spots here in London, and although I fear the cliffhanger will be given away too soon, there will be more café guides coming soon!

ATTENDANT
79 GREAT EASTERN STREET, LONDON EC2A
Located in both Fitzrovia and Hoxton, here's a coffee shop passionate about their trade and brilliant food. Previously at Chiltern Firehouse, the Attendant chef creates magic in the kitchen.

Soho Grind offers the perfect spot for a lunchtime escape.
(if there's potato and leek soup, don't think twice!)

SOHO GRIND
19 BEAK STREET, LONDON W1F 9RP
Although my French hasn't improved much beyond 'framboise', this counts for one of my top spots to go for a coffee in London. Their blend is one of my favourites, and you're lucky to find their chain a few places in town, extending to Holborn and Shoreditch Grind.

BARBER & PARLOUR
64-66 REDCHURCH STREET, LONDON E2 7DP

Not only will you find a good coffee and a great bowl of granola here, but Barber & Parlour also combines their charming space with grooming options for him and her. Whether you need your beard trimmed (am I right, ladies?) or a manicure, it's all here. In the same building as the Electric Cinema, now, who could ask for more?

THE HIVE OF VYNER STREET

286-290 CAMBRIDGE HEATH ROAD
A recently discovered East London Gem, who with their organic ethos and on point coffee has become a new favourite. Only a skip and a jump away from Broadway Market, which is an absolutely vibrant place to be on Saturdays.

Brilliant options for oganic and clean eating
(those coffees excluded..) at The Hive in East  London.

COUNTER ALBION
64-66 REDCHURCH ST, LONDON E2 7DP
Not only a photogenic favourite, but this place had me raving about a cauliflower almond soup for ages. With a colourful and exciting lunch buffet, this one is definitely worth a visit and perfect for dates catching up with friends.

HOPE YOU ENJOY!

SUMMER MIND

SEA NEW YORK TOP / REISS CULOTTES / VINTAGE BOOTS

Whilst I wouldn't usually describe myself as in a trapped state of mind, I do acknowledge, that I'm currently trapped in summer-mode. Perhaps it's the fact that London days are getting longer and lighter, but then it could also be the fact that I've let the air out of my heater, and my entire home is now toasty again!

I'm so excited for this month. My tax-return is my current frenemy, but with my next trip to New York only being a little bit over a month away, and people I love coming to visit me in London this month, my mood simply cannot be brought down.

I HOPE YOU'RE DOING AMAZING

EAST END HOMERUN

VINTAGE LEATHER JACKET / VINTAGE JUMPER / SEA NEW YORK SKIRT / KEEPSAKE TROUSERS / NIKE SNEAKERS / MAXMARA LOAFERS

From blue silk gowns to soggy sneakers that were once whilst posing up against some lucky potato's Volkswagen, you guessed it. I'm home! Home where a parking spot is the price of a mansion, home where there's only one correct answer to what the weather's like and home where the world meets to discuss politics, create art and eat fish and chips.

You have probably heard me complaining more about my cross shower than you have heard me speak about fashion weeks, but even so, it's good to be back and it's good to get started on the projects ahead. My current mantra to get me through the last patch of winter (it doesn't quite feel like winter though, does it?), is cookies and yoga. I'm always one to carry 5 bags, with various lenses, cameras, my laptop, refreshments (just in case) and chargers, so bringing my yoga mat* would probably tip me over for good. Going through the glorious youtube, I came across Yoga with Adriene sometime last year, and it's really brilliant for people of all levels - definitely check her out if yoga floats your boat!

HAVE A GREAT START TO YOUR WEEK

MOMENTS LATER

VELVET BY GRAHAM AND SPENCER JACKET / GANNI CO-ORD / POLLINI SHOES / IRIS & INK CLUTCH

Going on a shoot, there's only so much you can plan and predict when it comes to what outcome you'll have at the end of it. I'll admit it. My eyes were in fact aiming for "shut" in this photo, but somehow I ended up doing a mis-interpreted Karlie Kloss smoulder we all wish I could pull off.. Sadly I can't, but it was a fun moment to capture which shall serve as enough purpose for posting it this time.

This photo comes as a continuation to the previous post, done by beautiful St. Paul's. Little did Christine and I know that the rain would be pouring down within seconds, and this was one of our last shots that day before we ran for shelter at Café Rouge just on the square.

HOPE YOU'RE ALL HAVING A LOVELY START TO YOUR  WEEK!

HIDDEN ARENAS

GANNI LACE CO-ORD / ZARA TURTLENECK / POLLINI BOOTS / IRIS & INK CLUTCH

Calling London home can on the days where I work from home, and the only exploring I do is that of the variety of cup-noodles from the local supermarket - makes it all seem slightly standard. Most definitely unglamorous whenever I'm faced with my sporadic dripping shower head, praying I'll get all of the conditioner out this time..

And then I snap out of it. London has so many incredibly majestic, historic and wonderful locations, that the word standard couldn't ever come near in terms of describing this city. Best of all is when it allows us to connect with people from all over the world, who come here to live or simply to pass through, and this week I had the utter pleasure of shooting together with LA based photographer Christine Chang. I was sitting at one of my favourite coffee houses editing photos, when she asked me whether I was a blogger. And the rest is history.. So here's what we got up to around most beautiful St. Paul's.

London, my love, you've done it again..

You've given me one sturdy flu flirting cold and whilst I appreciate so many of your other seasonal gestures, this one isn't exactly my favourite. It was bound to happen sooner or later and whether I collected it on the tube or caught it from the icy gusts coming from the gaps in my floorboards, the outcome remains the same and here I am. Reluctantly admitting defeat, but then the show must go on (and what a good show it is though!). Luckily I have some wonderful friends to bring tea and cook soup, and with my trip back to Denmark only being a week away, even a throat infection won't bring me down.

HOPE YOUR WEEK IS TREATING YOU WELL!

A CONVERSATION

REISS TRENCH COAT / WE ARE ARROW RING

Nothing practical would ever get done in my house did radio, YouTube, Netflix or other broadcasting luxuries of the 21st century not exist. This means no house cleaning, no floor painting, no cooking, no toothbrushing, no nothing! It goes without saying that 70% of my usage of YT goes straight to funny cat videos, sneezing pandas and laughing babies. Obvs. The last 30% thankfully goes to some pretty interesting things.

Any chance I get to namedrop TED talks into a conversation, I will, and this will always be my no. 1 go-to for inspirational, informative talks. Lately I have however also immersed myself in the show called The Conversation by Amanda de Cadenet. It's from 2012, yet I find its concept something worth talking about. The concept is pretty straight forward: women talking to women about women. She talks to accomplished women such as Harper's Bazaar's Glenda Bailey and soulful Alicia Keys, discussing their designated industries, personal experiences, strengths and vulnerabilites. In a society that seems to favour a very specific image of women, it's wonderful to see all women of different ages, ethnicities and backgrounds being celebrated.
